Angelo Calvello is Executive Vice President, Institutional Relationship Management, for Man Investments Inc., the U.S. subsidiary of the Man Investments division. His focus is developing Man’s U.S. institutional business. Dr. Calvello joined Man in 2006 and has worked in the financial services industry since 1984.
Prior to joining Man Investments Inc. in 2006, Dr. Calvello spent over six years with State Street Global Advisors in the U.S. as principal/senior institutional business development officer. He was responsible for the development and distribution of the firm’s hedge funds and portable alpha businesses.
Dr. Calvello has also worked for C/79 Consulting, Analytic Investors and Credit Agricole Futures as CEO, Director of Marketing, and Director of Sales respectively. From 1988 to 1994 he was Vice President at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, responsible for developing products on the Exchange’s four major product lines. Dr. Calvello’s career in the investment business began in 1984 when he joined the Chicago Board of Trade.
Dr. Calvello earned a PhD in Contemporary European Philosophy from DePaul University and a post-doctoral certificate in business from New York University's Stern School of Business. Dr. Calvello writes and speaks extensively about hedge funds, portable alpha, and alpha/beta separation. His most recent publications include "The Origins of Portable Alpha," "The Benefits of a Fully Bundled Portable Alpha Solution,” and "130/30 Strategies: A Truck Stop on the Road to Portable Alpha.” Dr. Calvello recently chaired major portable alpha and asset allocation conferences in Sydney, Hong Kong, New York, and Copenhagen. His podcasts on portable alpha are available on iTunes and other web sites. His writings also have appeared in Healthcare Financial Management, Barron's, Investment News, American Indian Culture and Research Journal, and Derivatives Strategies. Dr. Calvello is a trustee for a police pension fund in Illinois and is also a member of the Chicago Quantitative Alliance.
